pictures for instalation

Video installation evaluation

Video installation evaluation

For my video installation I used lights and coloured gel sheets, which changes the colour of the light the audience can see. This helps with the illusion I was hoping to create with the installation, I hope to mesmerise people and almost hypnotise them with the images and footage I create.

For my video installation shoot I used a cannon DSLR HD camera, a tripod for the camera, portable lights and multi coloured gel sheets. By using all the necessary equipment I was able to achieve the perfect feature in my opinion it was exactly what I was expected and wanted.

I wanted to create the illusion of a sun in darkness, I wanted it to mesmerise and entertain people. I believe it did because I received good feedback and the feature impressed me too. I wanted people to feel that even in their darkest place there is hope, which is portrayed by the light.

DVD menu design and authorising

                                                                     DVD menus
Introduction

The conventions of DVDs are included in the features, the moving images, documents pictures and the copyright protection warnings. The functions of the DVD are included in the DVD menu, animations and through the moving images.

The conventions of a DVD

The features menu on a DVD contain the unused footage, scene selections and behind the scenes this is for the people who are interested in seeing what happens behind the scenes or the scene selection option is for the people who may have watched the feature up to a certain part but then had to come back to that scene in the future.
The moving images, which are displayed on the front screen menu usually, contain parts of the film similar to a trailer but instead the length is shorter and there is no audio just background music, these images continue to loop for along as you are on the menu.
The documents pictures are the images which are used and displayed on the front and back of the DVD case, the images taken from screen shots of the film will be located on the back of the case and on the front will be a picture taken specifically for the film.
The copyright protection warnings are some times located on the DVDS case on either the bottom of the front and the back of the DVD case and also located on the actual DVD as a feature just before the film or feature starts.

The function of DVDs

The functions of a DVD contain Menu buttons, animations and moving images. The menu are highly significant to the use of the DVD because the menu buttons allow you as the view to decide and select what you want to watch on that DVD and also when you want to watch it e.g. with subtitles.

The animations and moving images in a DVD can be included in the pictures on the front of the DVD case, on the actual DVD CD and also in the title menu of the DVD, these can be visually seen through pictures and the menu images, which move and have audio before you select you specific feature.

I believe DVDs do not have a great future however I do believe the aspect of how a DVD is formatted does for example I believe have a menu with menu buttons such as play movie, special effects, scene selection and deleted scenes. I believe this format has a long and successful future because it is very significant and easy to use.

The threats to DVDs are at the moment is the discovery of the Blue Ray high definition feature length movies etc. so as of the moment I believe this is the biggest threat I also believe a big up and coming threat which could rival blue ray is online streaming such as love film and Netflix because they are very significant and easy to use but the down side is it cost monthly payments. I do not believe that the DVD is unique and I think the major weakness to a DVD is it can brake easily, the DVD players are not in very high demand at the moment so if they stop being sold DVDs will be almost useless and also I think the quality is not as good as you can get on live stream and blue ray.

Three visual Artists

Three different artists

Sam Taylor wood

Samantha Taylor Wood born 4th march 1957 and born in England is known for being a very successful filmmaker, visual artist and photographer. Her first attempt was a major flop called the nowhere boy, which was a film based on the background and childhood of each member of the famous world known band the Beatles. But she became successful through her visual art the two standout pieces are the rotting fruit and the rotting rabbit corpse. These pieces of art both display the decay of a rabbits deceased body and also the decay of fruit which has been left for months to rot, this art is in video form and very interesting and disturbing. The fruit art is called a still life and the decaying rabbit is call a small death. i believe by using an actual rabbits corpse could be seen as controversial because animal rights campaigners could find this cruel and very inappropriate using a previously living body for art.

Bill viola

Bill Viola was born January 5th 1981 and is a contemporary video artist, and his art focuses on fundamental human experiences such as birth and death. Bill violas art mainly consists of water featured pieces, e.g. one of his work of arts is of a man being pulled out of a well which is full of water, he is pale and looks almost dead and he has no movement in this lifeless body, This piece of art was inspired by a picture of Jesus Christ but he says that his piece of art has nothing to do with religion. So bill violas art is a very specific and different type of video instillation because almost every single piece of art consists of water which relates to a child memory and experience which encouraged him to involve water in his work so often. The image of using a picture which is so similar to jesus christ is very controversial because people are religious predominately christian could see this as a direct insult and this could cause an uproar agains bill viola and his works of art.

Mathew Barney

Matthew Barney was born march 25th 1996 he is an American artist who’s work involves being sculpture, photographer, an artist and a film maker. He shot to fame when he created a feature called the Cremaster cycle in the years 1994 – 2004 this was a series of five feature films described by many as the most impressive pieces of art ever made. This pieces of art mainly explore the cycle of creation and this consisted of sculptures, drawings and photographs which all came into visual effect very successfully. Matthew Barney art is very sensual and sexual this could be seen as controversial if a child or young adult saw this they could be influenced of effected by it as a result making allot of parents and guardians angry.

buildings and flats evaluation

Pictures of flats and estates evaluation

INTRODUCTION

I found this task difficult to complete due the fact that I had to find my own personal time to go out into the city and find suitable flats and apartments to snap. I never found the actual task difficult of taking picture of nice suitable flats but what I did find difficult of the expectation to go out in my own time and not college work time to find the perfect pictures to take. But when I finally did find my pictures and took them I was very happy with them and relieved. The process leading up to taking the pictures was not very difficult or time consuming. Pre planning what my pictures are going to be of, how I expect them to look and also why I want to take these particular pictures was reasonably straight forward for me cause I am interested in what I was doing which made it and enjoyable task for me to be involved in and complete. Finding my pictures was easy because I had a good idea of exactly what I wanted to do before I went out to take the pictures, deciding which angle to shoot the building from was a hard task in itself.

At first we had to draw up a brainstorm which consists of the type of camera we where planning to use, what we want our pictures to be off, an explanation of why we are interested in taking these photos and where was the most likely place for these pictures to be seen in the working world. This part of the pre production task was simple and easy to complete on time successfully. After we had drawn this brainstorm we posted the completed task on our blog. Our next step in this pre production stage of our work was to create a mood board which consists of images taken from the internet, the pictures had to be of the selected topic of pictures we chose so my mood board was of famous estates, flats and buildings from around London and this is the mood board I was hoping to create with my own taken pictures. After we had completed our mood board we had to post it on our blog page.

in order to make my pictures as professional as i possibly could i gave them a raw look to them by using no editing and shooting them in there actual looking surroundings as you would see in the properties and estate agencies and magazines, i also scoped different areas which i found nice looking estates and tower blocks i had to have abit of range in the quality of flats and areas so i went to rich areas such as Maida Vaile and Kensal Rise i also took shots in areas such as south Kilburn and Labroke grove these are all located in different types of London. for the more higher distance tower blocks i used long depth of field such as the labroke grove K9 building. by visiting different places i felt that i could achieve more of a professional portfolio. I would compare my work to the likes of professional photographers in the same business because i use a cannon DSLR such as they do i also use a shallow depth of field to catch a nicer image of a tall structure. however i feel that i could improve to the levels of a professional by maybe taking more of a variety of photos of the same structure maybe a shot of the hallways and rooms etc i could also change the IOS to capture more varieties of shots of the buildings

CONCLUSION

I conclude that this task was enjoyable for me and that I had fun completing it but the only part of the task which I found difficult and time consuming was finding the time to go out into the city in my own time to the different locations which my buildings and flats where located. Apart from that small difficulty which I overcame in the end to complete my work.
