Frankie boyle press release

Channel 4 would like to stand by there decision for approving and allowing the programs and the Frankie Boyle joke to be displayed on the channel. Our official website shows that we fully support all disabled issues and also race issues, we also display on our website that we encourage equality amongst all races and disabilities and feel that jokes that are aimed at abled people and also disabled people are necessary for all people to feel equal and no one to feel left out and neglected to society. However we do admit that Frankie boyle aiming his joke at a specific person can be seen as unfair there for understand the complaints which have been coming in regarding the joke but we have tried our best to answer back expressing how we feel the joke should not be seen as anything other then trying to make people laugh and enjoy the shows we display on our channel.

Lucys Work, Email to BBC

Dear BBC

I am writing to complain about the comments made by David Starkey in the Recent showing of News night, I feel it was wrong for him or anyone to blame the Riots in the United Kingdom on Black gangster culture and also by quoting the subject of race has become unmentionable, by whites at any rate, I feel he is almost trying to justify people being able to criticize other peoples culture and race which is basically open racism.

I am also not happy about how he reacted to people taking offence to his recent comments, he mocks the public and say there opinions are “hysterical” he also says that a breach in what he calls the taboo on discussing race. He also accused the “whites are becoming blacks” saying that white people are starting to become almost disobedient like black people which I feel is wrong on both halves of the argument you cannot blame one race for the actions of another.

I also feel by him mentioning the work and speeches of the racist diplomat Enoch Powell did not help his cause, whose 1968 Speech Rivers of blood attacked and condemned immigration. He then went on to mention that part of the legacy of the reaction to Powell had been “an enforced silence on the matter of race”.

I have also carefully read through the BBC producers guidelines and would like to list some points which i feel are appropriate to this letter. the following quotes are taken from the BBC producers guidelines website. the points i took out of the website to review for this letter state that the bbc are accountable for their audiences, and you say that the bbc will acknowledge mistakes which have been made and encourage a culture of willingness to learn from them and in my personal opinion as well as thousands of others this Starkey programme and the things he said is a mistake but nothing has been done about it by your orginisation.
1.2.5 Harm and offence

We aim to reflect the world as it is, including all aspects of the human experience and the realities of the natural world. But we balance our right to broadcast innovative and challenging content with our responsibility to protect the vulnerable from harm and avoid unjustifiable offence. We will be sensitive to, and keep in touch with, generally accepted standards as well as our audiences’ expectations of our content, particularly in relation to the protection of children.

1.2.11 Accountability

We are accountable to our audiences and will deal fairly and openly with them. Their continuing trust in the BBC is a crucial part of our relationship with them. We will be open in acknowledging mistakes when they are made and encourage a culture of willingness to learn from them.

The race relation act 2010 received royal assessment in April 2010. This is a reference taken from a website called www.raceequalitytoolkit.co.uk which I used in my research of racial discrimination and to understand the meanings and laws of the race relation act.

April 2011: the public sector equality duty, the socio-economic duty and dual discrimination protection comes into effect, replacing the current public sector duties in the race relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Disability Discrimination act 2005 and the Equality act 2006.

The equality act 2011 incorporated all prior legislation including the Race relations’ act 1976 (as amended). As race is one of the protected characteristics, it is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of race against anyone, irrespective of their racial group.

Evaluation of stop motion

Stop motion is when you can use cut outs from magazines, newspapers or your own drawings and animate them, you can make movies and short clips which show your cut outs moving etc. you can take random pictures and drawings, make minor adjustments to them and make them look like there talking and walking as well as other movements and even though you are restricted with the movements of your pictures the stop motion effect is very funny to look at and can be a very good piece of animation.

I feel that one of the strengths of stop motion is it is very quick easy and simple to make and create a short animation movie. the stop motion icon on the mac makes these animations very easy and quick to make and the outcome of your short or long animations are very affective when completed. And also you can be very random in your animations story line because randomness and weirdness really suits the way the stop animation works and moves.

However a weakness to using stop animation is that it is very difficult to make the movements of the animated characters smooth and move in time with edit audio like music or talking etc. and also you cannot move the cut outs and characters the same way you can move a 3d object the picture stays still and looks rather old fashioned which may not interest people.

Eadweard Muybridge

Born 9th of April 1830- 8th may 1904. he was an English photographer and he's known for pioneering work on animal locamotion, he is one of the most influencial photographers of all time. his freeze frames are still on display at the national museums of American history. he is also most known for actually inventing motion photography, he is best known for proving that horses can be totally of the ground whilst there running. he was accused of murdering his wife's secret lover but was never found guilty. He moved to the unite states of america in 1851 to further pursue his career in his work. he is also known for using an animation device called a zoopraxiscope.

Eadweard Muybridge captured motion by using 24 induvidual cameras and then uses a trip wire which is linked to the camera so when the wire is triped for instance by the horse the camera will catch all the movements of the horses, he then but the images together and created his motion picture this is how he proved how a horse gallops.

we recreated his experiment by setting up 6 different computers to capture 6 different images and them we put them all together which created the motion of one person walking and of another person walking then tripping. we could improve our experiment by taking more pictures and have more shots which would make the motions and movements of the shots more smooth.

FPS stands for frame per second this is what people use to measure how many shots and pictures they need in able to create a motion image.,many tele vision programes can display up to 24 frames per second to create motion images on programmes.

zoetrope

A zoetrope is a device which makes images seem to move so its similar to an old school cinema. it is made of plastic and is in the shape of a cylinder which has vertical cuts down the sides. Zoetrope is down to our persistence of vision, so when we see a light flash every tenth of a second or less we see it as continues. and because of the persistence we cannot tell the difference between when one flash ends and one begins. So you can see the moving images through the zoetrope because of the consistent slots which are on the cylinder on the zoetrope they simulate flashes of light creating a strobe like effect.

The zoetrope is very easy to use and manoover, so it is easy quick and simple to make a small reasonable animation. it is also a simple device which can be used by people of all ages. They can also be fun to people because it is a simple animation device which creates the illusion of movements. it is a circular narrative it continues to revolve and go round and round.

But a weakness for it would be that it is not very long the images and animation shown are limited so you would get bored of seeing the same moving image over and over again. limited by the physicality from the viewing device. If u view the zoetrope through the top instead of through the strips the images will be blurry and wont make sense cause you will lose the illusion.
