purpose of idents

channels have idents to establish there channel name, attract more viewers and to display there brand. because television sells it self each individual channel has to promote there channel as a brand so that they can appeal to people and convince them to watch there channel. For example bbc ones idents before a football highlight show the ident will display people playing football and there is also a constant red background to every bbc one ident. cartoon network when a show finishes the ident will contain a character from the program which has just ended or is about to begin. channel 4 uses moving objects in there adverts e.g. the buildings which move and cross eachother and make the shape of a 4 which is recognised by channel four viewers.
