Advert Evaluation

For my PowerAde advert I wanted to and did show three different peoples perspectives of hydrating and energising there body in order to push themselves further and work out, jog and play football with more passion and desire. In my advert the three people displayed are de motivated and cant be asked to run, work out or play football, they get handed a bottle of PowerAde and are all of a sudden motivated and ready then they start to work out harder, jog faster and play football more effectively.
I feel the different scenes and places we used for our advert went very well because we did not just use one location so it wasn’t boring like some adverts. I also feel the camera angels went well and worked well with the adverts setting. I’m particularly proud of when the boy kicks the football the camera angels and the editing is very good.
I enjoyed filming in the gym because I personally enjoy working out so to have a free work out session was fun, I also like to play football so I enjoyed having a little kick about in order to create footage for the advert.
The aspect of the advert, which I’m most pleased about, would have to be the split screen scenes because I have never done a split screen edit before I and think I done very well in carrying the task out.
Our advert compares to the actual PowerAde advert because we display sports and people doing sports that is a major similarity but a difference would have to be that PowerAde use actual footballers and runners etc who are famous and professional in the sport they do.
Our persuasive technique was the energy and motivation boost, which the three actors displayed, got after drinking a bottle of PowerAde.
I think our advert most defiantly would be successful in selling its product because I think we advertised PowerAde very well and showed the effects, which it claims to have on people who drink it.
Our target audience would be people who are involved in sporting activities so it would appeal to both genders ages between 16 to 35 onwards, I also believe all classes of people would purchase and drink this hydrating product.
We received allot of good and positive feedback mainly on our camera angels used and also the theme and narrative aspect of our advert this makes me feel a sense of achievement and I’m proud my advert appeals and stands out to people.
I was not completely happy with the idea of making an advert for PowerAde I thought it was a quite boring product and it was hard to and not very enjoyable to think up an advert and carry it out etc.
I also felt the weather let us down on some of the scenes some times it was light and sometimes it was cloudy I feel this messed up the contrast a little bit. I also did not like the equipment I used to film the footage, I used a normal cannon video recorder when I feel I should have used a full HD video recorder this would have made my advert look more professional and pleasant to look at and watch.
If I was to make another advert I would defiantly put more thought into the product which I choose to advertise and choose one I actually want to advertise, I would also use a full HD camera so the footage I use for my video would be more clearer and better to watch for my viewers.

Evaluation of shot sequence

In my shot sequence I managed to use several differnt shots and angels which i thought helped my short video display a short understandable narative story line which was both funny and dramatic. I called the shot sequence blocked because when i walk into the room the phone starts to ring and there is no number and it just says blocked, this was meant to ad tension along with the running sound track played through out the shot sequence. The running track i took from youtube and it was the theme song from the movie jaws, brilliant for building tension.

I thought i used a good number of angels which suited the shot sequence, I used a mixture of moving shots with differnt angels which i thought worked very well and went perfectly with the video and my idea. I wanted the begining of the shot sequence to be serious and dramatic for the audience to watch but then i wanted to relieve all the tension and make it houmerous which I did. I thought my streangth on this shot sequence video was the quality of the camera angels and the stroy line, I believe it puts the viewer through two emotions being scared and nervous then instantly turning to being amused and laughing.

I think my main weaknesses is maybe the people who watch it wont understand why the shot sequence goes from tense and serious to amusing and funny. most short videos have one mood and then that mood runs throughout the video for example if the video starts funny then the whole video will stay funny and end funny. i also think there is a lack of camera angels, although i feel there is a right amount of camera angels the viewers may not think so and might think there should be more angels and scences in the shot sequence.

Evaluation of styles and conventions of music videos, with examples.

1: Ed Sheeran-Lego house
This music video has a very narrative story line which goes very well with the music that is displayed on the video. The video shows a famous actor playing a character which is obsessed with Ed Sheeran. the actor in the video dresses exactly the same as Ed Sheeran and also looks like him. The video matches the song very well and goes with the style of music.

2: Immortal Technique-Dance with the devil
This is a song which has a music video that actually describes the lyrics perfectly. The artist is singing about a young man who’s mind was corrupted by the desire and greed of having money and women etc, the video also shows the lengths that the young man would go to in order to chase his dream. The artist does not actually appear in the video and there is only four people displayed on it. It’s a very sad song and the video works very well with the theme of it.

3: Chase and status-Let you go
This video also has a narrative outlook to the video; it displays a hypocrite Jeremy Kyle like talk show host. He judges people oh his talk show then goes and actually does what these people he is criticising and judging them about. Although the video is very well done and good to watch the video does not go with the new dub step genre music. So the music does not particularly go with the song but that does not deny the fact that both the video and the song is very good.

4:Nate dog ft Warren G-Regulate
Regulate is a song about a man going to meet his friend but then gets robbed for his jewellery and car then lets his friend know and they go looking for the robbers. The video is very well produced and gets both the point of the song and of the video across very well. The song linked brilliantly with the music video and I really enjoy listening to the song and watching the music video.

5: Afro man-Because I got high

This is a reasonably narrative music video but not completely some of the images and scenes used in the video are very random and don’t have any relation to the actual song. But song is very catchy and the video is comical along with the song which is also very funny and comical.

Evaluation of my prezi

I felt my presentation was well made but I believe I could possibly have presented my prezi with more confidence and explained the presentation with more detail. A specific example of one of my strengths from my presentation is my tone of voice I felt that I was very loud and clear to my audience I also feel I kept reasonably good eye contact with my audience. I also feel one of my main strengths was the style of my prezi I thought it was very effect and helped the audience to understand my chosen subject for my presentation.
My specific weakness I thought my presentation had was my lack of images used in relation to my prezi subject I thought that let me down and had a negative effect on my presentation. I also feel I could have faced the audience more, even though I actually did face and talk to the audience through parts of my presentation I feel I did not face the audience enough and I can defiantly improve on that for my future presentation.  I also did not use a video which was a huge weakness for my overall prezi because I did not give my audience a chance to view a video on my chosen subject for my presentation.
Improvements I think I can defiantly make on my presentation are the lack of pictures and images I can use, I could add allot more imagery to my prezi which would give the audience a better understanding of my presentation and what it is about. I could also use allot more eye contact with the audience and face them more often instead of spending time looking at the screen and reading of it, also be more prepared to present my prezi. I believe with these improvements I could produce a prezi which is both enjoyable to view and interesting to listen to.

Mind maps, summary of facts

Mind mapping is basicaly a powerful approach to not taking and can also be known as concept mapping, spray diagrames or spider diagrames. Mind mapping is a useful technique that helps you to learn more effectivly, improves the way that you record information, and supports and enhances creative problem solving. By using mind maps you can quickly identify the structure of a subject whulst recording raw facts contained in normal note you can also see the way the pieces of information stick together. Mind maps also help you remember you gatherd information because the mind maps hold a format which your mind finds easy to recal and quick to review. Mind maps are also more compact than conventional notes, this makes it easier for you to genertate new ideas and make associations easily. Mind mapping also breaks large projects or topics down into managable chunks, this lets you plan effectivly without getting overwhelmed. A good mind map should show the shape of the subject, induvidual points and the relative importance of these points.

Critical evaluation of the purpose of music videos, with examples.

1: Linkin Park-New Divide, this music video is promoting the Transformers two movie and it is also the films official sound track. The video uses a mix of effects merged with normal images and clips from the actual film. Its a good songs backed up by a good music video which also uses good visual effects, however the song has nothing to do with the video of the new transformer movie.

2: Rock star-Nickleback, this video and song is about how it would feel like to be a famous rock star. The video shows a number of different normal people and celebrities in different locations lip syncing the artist’s song. It is a good and catchy song also smart use of different people in different places, however not everyone enjoys rock music this may be a negative.

3: Sneakbo-The Wave, this song is a club anthem/dance tune and the song is about a new dance craze. There is a numerous amount of clips some show the artist in a club with dancing women which is the main reason to the song and why it relates to the video. There is a good use of effects in the video and also scenery which relates well to the song. But the artist uses allot of slang which many people may find difficult to understand.

4: Tupac-Dear Mama the artist raps about his childhood relationship with his mother. The video shows a very effective story which goes with the song very well. A good point to this video is that the song goes very well with the video a bad point is the video shows some abusive and violent scenes which people may not like seeing.

5: Daddy y Yankee-Lo que paso paso, the song is about a couple who have had a huge argument and have broken up over it but then make up at the end of the video. This is a Columbian dance song, the video shows people dancing and also clips of the couple arguing and making up. The music and beat is perfect for dancing to and also the song goes with most of the clips but some of the lyrics do not go with the theme of the song or the video.

introduction to Tv advertising

Tv advertising is when a product or service is being promoted on the television. It could be be anything from phones to restaurants, television is the best method of promoting a product to millions of people around the world.

three key characteristics from adverts are the music and songs which are used in each advert, slogans and logos which are shown in different adverts and they all have one target to sell us the consumer a product. all three of these key characteristics help adverts to reach there target audience and advertise effectively.

one of the stand out adverts for me is the compare the market advert which has been and still is being shown on television. the use of a talking meerkat in the advert made it very funny and memorable because i still find it funny. The advert has also become very famous there have even been fluffy toy meerkats made which were taken from the advert. The advert is promoting a comparing car insurance, house insurance and life insurance etc so the business has nothing to do with meerkats. They advert also invented a famous catchphrase when the meerkat says "simples".

How many adverts is it estimated that an average American consumes everyday? American consumers are exposed to 3000 upwards advertisements a day. Where do you see adverts Adverts are seen on the buss, when you watch television, on blimps, on the floor of some supermarkets and on the side of telephone booths. What is the second most uttered word in the world? The second most uttered word in the world is Coca Cola. Sometimes advertisements use a character or personality to help sell a product, why is this successful? Using a character or personality to help advertise a product works well because by making the object human it appeals to people more effectively. Does advertising always work? Give an example? Advertising does not always work because sometimes the product misses the market. An example of this is when Ford released a car called Edsel which consumers did not like the look of therefore making the product a massive failure.

Video Analysis: Cadburys Eyebrows

Title of video:
Cadbury eyebrows.

URL of where the advertisements can be found:
I found and viewed the advert on youtube.

Describe and explain what happens in the video:

Who is the target audience for the video:
The advert is targeted at people who eat chocolate and already purchase cadburys product, also targeted at children and no particular gender or ethnicity. the main reason i feel the advert is aimed at children is because it is funny and children would find these eye brow movements to a song exciting and out of the ordinary.

Which digital platform does the video appear on:
When i first saw the advertisement it was on the television but i have also viewed it on the youtube website. there have also been on billboards across the country. the adverts were also very effectively shown on the television not to much or repetitively so viewers did not get fed up of seeing the advert.

Legal and Ethical

What does ‘copyright,’ mean?
Copyright means when a business or a person puts a legal right on a name or product which excludes others from copying the idea or using that idea to sell on and make money from it.

Give three examples of different things, which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
I used a theme track from a famous horror movie called the exorcist this could be seen as copyright.
I also used two clips from famous Hollywood films called the fourth kind and insidious this could also be seen copyright.
The scenes, which I used, were in the collages premises and without permission to film there that would have been a copyright theft.

List two websites that give copyright free music:

List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:
Google Images.

Explain what a location release form and why is it needed for filming?
A location release is a binding contract between owners of private property and the photographer whereby the owner of the property grants written permission to shoot a movie or take pictures etc. it is needed for filming because it gives the producers the right to film in that location legally.

What is a contributor release form and why is it required?
This form shows that the person giving permission to film on there land etc has given permission and is allowing them to film there. This is required so that no legal action can be taken by each party concerning this part of the contract agreed between them.

Review report

At the beginning of this unit I had to create a blog on a site called blogger this was so I could publish my future work and videos etc. this was an easy task to create a blogger account, we also had to upload a picture and a video from the internet and publish them on our blog which I did and also found easy. We then had to select two adverts from YouTube, embed them onto our blog the write up an evaluation on the adverts, this was more difficult but I done it successfully.

In the second week of my media course I had to think up and then write a script about my passion, what I am interested. My chosen subject was to talk about the horror genre and why I like that sort of film. I also had to learn how to use video filming equipment and practice filming the five camera angels shot rule. I also had to in a group discuss existing video profiles.

In week three I had to go back to the film footage, which I filmed the previous week, and write up a review on it then post both the video and the review on my blog. I also had to learn about mind mapping and what they consist of. I then had to produce my own mind map and write a definition to what a mind map is.  This week is also when I filmed my scripted footage; I enjoyed filming my script and had fun learning how to use the camera etc.

I spent week 4 editing my filmed footage; I added an audio to it and also a picture. The most important part to my film was the horror clips taken from YouTube. It took me a while to understand and learn how to use the final cut program but when I got the hang of it to it and started editing my film I had fun and enjoyed making my film perfect. I finished my film and editing by the end of the week and am very proud of my first effort at making a short film.

The final week of my unit I had to evaluate my video profile, get at least five people from my media class to view and comment my video then I had to write an evaluation on my last 5 weeks of carrying out the tasks of this unit. I don’t enjoy writing very much but I found it easy to evaluate my unit and video profile even though it was quite time consuming. Overall I enjoyed this first unit of my new media course and look forward to doing more work in this course.

My Video Profile Evaluation

I really enjoyed the practical side of making my own short video profile and I also enjoyed the editing side of the work, adding audio, pictures and videos this was very interesting and fun for me. I felt I done a good job for a first time effort, I added sufficient audio at the time when I wanted it, added a picture which went well with what I was talking about at the time and also I feel the short clips which I downloaded from YouTube were necessary for the theme of my video profile. I did take a while to edit the audio, videos, film and pictures in perfectly but it was enjoyable learning how to use new software and editing my own film work.

The aspects which I am most proud of is the effect I inserted which was constant throughout the whole movie, I thought the effect was very effective and relevant to what I was trying to achieve in my video. I am also proud of the audio I inserted, the scary theme tune from the exorcist went well with my video because I wanted to scare the audience and I believe I achieved this.

The things I think I could defiantly improve on is the audio, I thought the wind which was picked up in my filming disrupted the flow of my audio, also the background music was sometimes to loud so the viewer could vaguely hear my talking, what I was saying to my audience. Another part of my filming I think I could improve on in the future is making some of the clips I took from YouTube suitably longer so the viewer could have more of an idea of what my short film would be about.

Next time I have to create a film I will defiantly spend more time listening to the audio of my voice and also of any audio added and make sure the sound is perfect so that the audience can hear both me clearly whilst the background audio is playing. I will also make my film longer because I felt that my video profile was short even though my audience understood what my video was actually about.

My video is not as professional as a commercially produced video because it was my first time filming, editing and learning how to use this final cut program but I do think I done a good job and proud of my work, I hope to one day produce videos that are as good as the professional commercials which are produced by big businesses and showed on the television.

My video profile script

                                                                            Script

Audio                                                                        Picture

Start:

My name is Daniel Casey. I am 19 years old And I enjoy watching horror movies. Through out my short film im going to explain why I like horror movies.

Start:

The film starts with the camera man walking down the stairs to the tunnel and walking up the tunnel were I will be standing; the camera will then be focused on me and mainly on my face. And I will be introducing myself to my audience whilst talking about why I am obsessed with the horror genre. Camera is faced on me whilst I am on the computer and watching a horror trailer.

Then a short clip from the film insidious, which I took from you tube played after I have said my last line.

Middle:

(Explain to the camera my passion for horror films.)

(I explain how I first viewed a horror movie, where I was, why I watched it and how it set me on the path to becoming such a big fan of the genre.)

The first time I watched a horror movie was when I was at my grandmothers and it was day time, I watched the nightmare on elm street which I did not find very scary but enjoyed I enjoyed the film, from there I started getting more and more interested in watching scary movies.

Middle:

The camera focuses on my face and I talk to my audience. I will be filming myself in two different locations throughout the course of the film.

(This scene will also be filmed in the cemetery but at a closer angel and I will be stood next to a grave, were the audience will be looking directly at my face ‘close up and eye level’.)

The Audio will now be added to the short film and will be playing in the background, the exorcist theme is the audio I will be using.

(I will pick a chosen horror movie which I enjoy and find the best I have seen then talk about this movie to the camera and to the audience.)

The film that I found most disturbing and actually made me think about the plot after I watched the film is called fourth kind. It’s basically about alien abduction, which sounds silly and over the top but the images used in the film was taken from real life footage, which was very disturbing and effective.

The scenery for this part of my short film will be in a different area of the cemetery and will be filmed at a canted angel. I will edit a short movie from you tube which is about the fourth kind film, then the camera will come back to me focused on my face and I will proceed to explain the movie’s plot and scenes then I will edit another short clip from the movie (Fourth Kind clip from YouTube) into the short film of me which I hope will make the audience jump and feel like how I felt when I first watched this film.

(This particular clip will be shot at a ‘canted angel’ which will show sense of confusion and ghost like affect to the audience’)
End:

I will then bring my short film to an end by saying ‘so that was my short film of my hobby and I hope you enjoyed it and hopefully I haven’t put you off the idea of watching horror movies.’ (short pause and looking into the camera) ‘Good bye’
End:

This closing scene to my short movie will be shot at an angel were you can see both my face and also my chest and shoulders, the shot size I will be using is MCU. I will be talking to the camera and the audience ending my short film. This final scene will be shot in the same place as the opening scene in the tunnel but this time instead of the camera coming towards me it moves away from me giving a run away effect this is followed by a short and scary pop up.
